Students given the power
Published online on www.bizcommunity.com

On Tuesday, 5 May, Percy Knight, project manager at Power Developments, introduced third-year Town Planning Students of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to one of their latest, ground-breaking projects, The Village Family Shopping Centre.
Scheduled for completion in 2011, The Village Family Shopping Centre aims to change the face of shopping centres in South Africa by developing the first commercial, sustainably responsible retail destination in the country. Focusing on restoring family values and harnessing the environment and natural elements within the Somerset West Area, are just some of the ways that sets this project apart.
Testament to this ground-breaking initiative was CPUT's appreciation of and interest in Power's vision for this shopping centre. The lecture, which was attended by the head of department, was well received by the students and sparked debate on environmental sustainability which Power is spear heading through this project.
Ultimately, the students and lecturers agreed, this would be unlike any mall South Africa has seen before.
