Founded in 1983, Power Construction is the original of the Group’s core companies, established to serve a niche market. The company was re-named in 1995 – the outcome of rapid growth that can be attributed largely to the number of successful township and prestigious developments during the early 1990’s. In its relatively short life, it has established itself as a specialist in tackling some of Southern Africa’s most difficult construction projects over a wide range.
Power Construction’s hands-on management style is one of the major reasons for its success. The company manages each project with a core management team on the sire and where necessary, is supplemented by community members, who receive the appropriate training. Local and specialized contractors are employed and often, joint ventures are entered into with emerging contractors.
Power Construction is closely linked to the labour-intensive construction initiatives and to strategies for the promotion of emerging contractors. Another focus area of the Industry Charter is Enterprise Development, where the company is actively involved with promotions of previously disadvantaged individuals and enterprises.
Power Construction is active in the Western, Southern and Eastern Cape, Gauteng and more recently, Africa. Its civil engineering divisions include Power Construction South Division and Power Construction North. Other divisions include Power Building, Power Services (Organisational Development, Finance, Technical, Plant and SHEQ) and Power Plant.
